A Perfect Hatch

Friends, countrymen, guys and gals,
I come to make the impossible possible for you.. said BENZ A Class to the commoners of India who may think owning a Benz is a distant dream.
Mercedes-Benz gives us a feel of a hulk of a sedan. But the new Benz A class is the medium built hatchback with a competitive price of 24-25 lakhs compared to the premium price of the higher ranges in that family. Those who got a shock reading the price need not get chicken hearted.. just read ahead and decide. 400 bookings have already been registered..

The cheapest priced BMW X1 was always a threat for Merc brands. Now Benz A class is reversing its position as a premium compact car focussed to the young blood who wish to own a Benz as a life style emblem. It is certainly longer than the hatch back Hyundai Verna. Lets take a quick scan on this hatch back to see if this can capture and stay in the Indian hearts.

Wow! Gorgeous! is what to say at first sight of this beauty. The front grille studded with 302 diamond reflective pins, with the classy star on it gives it a royal look. The long bonnet, the bi-xenon head lamps complete with eye linered daytime lights gives it quite an alluring look. The three slotted bumper with its chiseled liners makes it striking.
Merc A carry bold cuts and lines that run along the sides gives it a demeanour sportiness. The ten spoke alloy wheel with two liners as in all the hatch back models . The rear view mirrors carry turn indicators. The mirrors look elegant with its black liners . It has a panoramic sun roof top.
The boot promises 341 ltrs of space meets up the desired need for long journeys. Large tail lamps, integrated spoilers and the two sporty exhaust pipes, all together makes it gleaming, marvelous and wonderful.
I would give 9/10 marks for the eclectic design and the German designer of this car.

Step inside and it is exquisitely furnished in black. The chromium insertions in between the black looks superb and sophisticated. The aircon vents remind of SLS AMG. A touch control sensitive dial, Multimedia screen, sporty music controls on the steering wheel, metre console etc. will certainly floor the youth. The white piping on the black upholstery gives it a topnotch look. The leg room in the rear and behind is spacy. Though the window behind is narrow, the sunroof gives it an ample look of wideness.
What is missing is the reverse parking sensor and the electric steering wheel adjustments.

Merc A class has two variants , both petrol and diesel. Smart drive test drove the petrol variant. 1595 cc, 4 cylinder,122 bhp engine offers 5000 rpm maximum power. But in 1250-4000rpm maximum torque 20.39 km meter is recorded. It manages to hit 100kmph mark in 9.7 seconds. There is a bit of slowness if you stomp on the throttle, but can be countered using the paddle shifter to down shift the seven speed DCT auto box, which is quick to react.
A class really impresses in handling. The stiff chassis helps to give good grip on the roads The steering offers a matured dollop of feedback. It is quick in its reflexes to the steering inputs. Though it is a low profile hatchback, the suspension is tuned to prevent bumping on the roads.
Seven airbags, ABS, EBD are the additional luxuries.
